CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple will introduce its first foldable model within the iPhone series with the upcoming iPhone Duo. The device was revealed on Sept. 9, with preorders set to open on Oct. 16. U.S. pricing starts at $1,999, while in the UAE, the entry-level price is AED 8,499. The sales rollout will begin on Oct. 23 in more than 70 countries and territories. This launch marks Apple’s first smartphone with a book-style design featuring separate outer and inner displays.

The iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch external display for everyday use when the device remains closed. When opened, it unveils a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR screen optimized for larger applications and multitasking. Both screens support ProMotion and Always-On functionalities, with outdoor brightness reaching 3,000 nits. The device’s casing is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, and the hinge is assembled from over 100 components. Additionally, it holds an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Software plays a pivotal role in maximizing the foldable iPhone’s expanded screen space. Apple developed iOS 27.1 to operate seamlessly in both open and closed modes. Split View allows users to position two applications side by side on the internal display. It’s also possible to run two windows of the same app and save custom app arrangements for future use. The larger display supports two Home Screen pages, while Touch ID remains embedded in the side button.
Enhanced multitasking options emerge with the larger display on iPhone
The camera system comprises a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main sensor provides an optical-quality 2x telephoto zoom. Duo Preview enables users to view a live image of their subject on the outer display while someone else takes the shot. The external screen also functions as a viewfinder for selfies captured with the rear cameras. Video recording capabilities reach 4K resolution at up to 120 frames per second, with Dolby Vision support.
Apple has equipped the iPhone Duo with the A20 Pro chip, manufactured using 2-nanometer process technology. The processor features a six-core CPU, a seven-core GPU, and dual 16-core Neural Engines. An integrated vapor chamber ensures thermal management within the foldable device. The phone also contains a battery on each side, with Apple estimating up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display.
October release positions Apple into the foldable smartphone segment
Starting storage options are 256GB, with higher capacities available at 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The iPhone Duo will be offered in star white and night sky colors. The initial retail release begins on Oct. 23, following the start of preorders one week earlier. An additional 28 countries and regions will receive the device on Oct. 30. The phone utilizes an eSIM-only design globally and supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity.
This new foldable device places Apple in a competitive market that already features offerings from several leading manufacturers. Its design combines a traditional outer screen with an expanded inner workspace for apps, photos, and videos. Hardware integration with Apple’s chips, operating system, and camera features remains intact, alongside familiar iPhone functionalities such as biometric authentication and the existing software ecosystem. Customers can expect to receive their first units approximately six weeks after the September announcement.
