CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s international reserves reached an all-time peak of $57.2145 billion at the close of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this provisional figure on September 7. As of the end of July, reserves were recorded at $56.2939 billion. The increase for the month amounted to roughly $920.6 million, or 1.6%. This marks the first occasion that Egypt’s official reserve holdings have surpassed $57 billion.

The August figure continues a consistent upward trend that has persisted throughout 2026. Reserves began the year at $52.5938 billion in January, rising to $52.7455 billion in February and further to $52.8306 billion in March. April saw the reserves reach $53.0092 billion, followed by an increase to $53.1342 billion in May. By August, the reserves had grown approximately $4.62 billion since January and around $5.76 billion from the end of December 2025.
Growth accelerated in the mid-year period. From May to June, reserves increased from $53.1342 billion to $55.0723 billion. They continued climbing to $56.2939 billion in July and then hit the August high. These three monthly gains combined added over $4 billion to Egypt’s reserve total. Compared to August 2025, the latest figure is roughly $7.96 billion higher, representing a yearly growth rate of approximately 16.2%.
Remittances bolster foreign currency inflows
Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also reached a peak in the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported these inflows amounted to about $47.3 billion, up from around $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year, a rise of 29.6%. In June alone, remittances hit about $4.2 billion, which was 15.6% higher than the approximately $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025.
Egypt’s recent balance of payments data covers the first nine months of fiscal year 2025/2026. During the period from July to March, the overall balance showed a deficit of $1.8 billion. The capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion, while the current account posted a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures provide the latest official overview of Egypt’s external financial position prior to the August reserve update.
Continued monthly record highs in reserves for 2026
Throughout 2026, the reserve figures have repeatedly reached new nominal highs. Reserves surpassed $55 billion in June, then exceeded $56 billion in July. August marked the first time reserves topped $57 billion. Egypt has now recorded three consecutive month-end reserve totals above $55 billion. The August total also exceeds by more than 10% the $51.4516 billion recorded at the end of December 2025.
These latest figures position Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest point on record, maintaining an unbroken monthly growth trend since the start of 2026. From January through August, each month’s reserve level was higher than the previous one. The August data remain provisional according to the central bank’s reporting standards, but nonetheless show a clear upward trajectory in Egypt’s reserve stock during the first eight months of the year.
